Frederica, in Jutland, as part of the ongoing National Danish
Women’s Development Programme (NDWDP). 20 girls took part in the
project, players gathering from all corners of the country.
The weekend included a
number of exciting activities, including technique training in
all forms of the game, a series of mini-cricket matches, based
on developing the all-round skills of the players, but in
particular the new girls that have joined the project and a full
16 over competitive match to round off the weekend.
Once again the weekend
gave the girls the opportunity to sit down and discuss the
future of the ‘Women’s’ game in Denmark. It is hoped that
further training sessions based on Zealand, and Jutland over the
coming months will set the girls up for their biggest goal, the
four team Danish Championships in 2010.
”The Final Countdown” –The Danish
Youth Championships
Lilliput-and junior-DM Ishøj
Ishøj Cricket Club finished the season in great style by
capturing both the Junior (U19) and Lilliput (U13) Danish
Championships played over the weekend 19th & 20th September
2009, at Svanholm Park, and Solvang’s park in Glostrup.
In the Lilliput event both
Svanholm and Ishøj had convincing victories over their nearest
rivals from Jutland, Fredericia and a Herning/Kolding
combination team. Both the Copenhagen based teams proving too
strong in all departments for their young opponents in day ones
semi-finals. The Final on day two however proved to be an
exciting event with Svanholm being dismissed for 75, of which
Mads Henriksen contributed a fine 48 not out, but Ishøj had to
thank Adil Akhtar’s fine 5 for 19, for getting them into such a
strong match winning position. In reply, all the Ishøj batsmen
made contributions to the winning total, but nerves must have
been on end as they eventually passed their target with just two
wickets to spare.
Ishøj - Svanholm. Ishøj won
by 2 wickets.
Svanholm 129 (Mads Henriksen 48, Adil Akhtar 5 / 19).
Ishøj 133 / 5 (Farhad Butt 37, Ihteshan Raja 29, Saif Ahmed 2 /
25, Tommy Henriksen, 2 / 32).
Third place at the event went to Fredericia, thanks in the main
to the player with the longest name Ajanthan K. Kumarasamy
(32x), whom unlike the majority of his team mates played
sensibly and stayed at the crease to see Fredericia home with 5
wickets left.
Herning / Kolding - Fredericia.
Fredericia won by 7 wickets.
Herning / Kolding 77 (Frederick Mikkelsen 34, Anojan Arul 4 /
22).
Fredericia 78 / 3 (Ajanthan Kumararasammy 32x, Frederik
Mikkelsen 2 / 30)
In the junior event the
cricket over the weekend was no less exciting and exciting
semi-finals were played between Svanholm and Herning/Aalborg, as
well as Ishøj and Skanderborg. In the first game, national
teamer Hamid Shah stroked a magnificent 107, and not to be
outdone, Academy all-rounder Basit Raja knocked an impressive
91* as their teams stormed into the final. However, the drama
didn’t stop here, as one of the most exciting finals in recent
years ensued between the Zealand neighbors and rivals.
Batting first Svanholm
scored a useful 229 for 5, Zammeer Khan 92* and Hassan Rashid 53
being the major contributors to the home side total. However,
the visitors were not overwhelmed by this total, and although
the ’Swans’ attacked worked hard, Basit Javed 73*and Saddique
Raja 61 saw the Ishøj boys home off the very last ball of the
game. In third and fourth place play-offs Skanderborg batsman
Kamran Mahmood impressed with a century in (137) in his teams
total of 218 / 8. In reply the Herning / Aalborg side found this
too big a total to chase down, and although a fighting 54 from
Glenn Hedvang set them up for the chase, they eventually
collapsed to a disappointing 138 all out, kamran Mahmood proving
to be Man of the match with 4 for 25 at the conclusion.
Final, Svanholm-Ishøj. Ishøj
won by 5 wickets.
Ishøj 229 / 5 (Basit Javed 73x, Saddique Raja 61, Omer Raja 27).
Svanholm 225 (Zameer Khan, 92, Hassan Rashid 53, Basit Javed 2 /
43).
Third/Fourth Place, Herning and
Aalborg - Skanderborg. Skanderborg won with 80 runs.
Skanderborg 218 / 7 (Kamran Mahmood 137, Gurkirat Singh 2 / 34).
Herning and Aalborg 138 (Glenn Hedavang 54, Kamran Mahmood 4 /
25, Olive Thomas 3 / 22).
In the youngest category of Danish
Championships, the ’Miniputs’, a record number of participants
took place for the first time in the Jutland fortress town of
Fredericia. Even more exciting for Danish Cricket was the
inclusion of teams from Hvidovre, Glostrup and Nørrebro, new
teams to this format for quite a few years. Because of the size
of the event, an A and B series event was hastily organised, and
all the teams managed to get some great cricket played over the
duration of the day. Eventual winners for the main event of the
day were Svanholm Cricket Club, and winners of the B Series were
our friends from North West Germany, Husum.
