Elite Cricket Update
As a means of keeping up to date with the work in progress
of the Elite cricket programme in Denmark, I have put
together a few bullet points on where we are after two
weeks.
1.
Elite Coaching Programme Structure:
- The Elite Coaching Programme for the summer of 2009 is now
in place in the form of an U13 – National Team overview
plan. This has been sent to the DCF administrator for
distribution on the website, and to individuals, coaches and
managers. The make up of the document includes, National
Team, A Team, Academy, U19 - U13 training programmes. All
teams and the National Academy have confirmed managers and
coaches, both for the summer programme and the ICC/ECC tours
around Europe. Overseas coaches are being fully utilised,
both by the Programme and the Cricket Development Officer.
2.
Academy:
The National Academy programme is now well under way;
programmes are operational in both Jylland and Sjælland. The
emphasis where possible has been very much on 1:1 coaching.
Gary Glisson is leading West operations, and Zishan Shah
continues to assist in the East.
3.
National Team, A Team:
Preparations are now well under way for the forthcoming T20
event in Copenhagen and the A Team European Championships in
Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Training is being carried out on a
regional basis, also with an element of 1:1 coaching where
possible. Sessions are being shared in Jutland with A team
and U19 players. This in the main being due to the balance
and make up of the National and A teams.
4.
U19 – U13 Squads:
Planning and preparations for the forthcoming ICC and ECC
tournaments is again well underway. Managers and coaches are
in place for all teams, and pre-tournament training for all
squads is in place within the Elite coaching Programme
structure.
5.
National Development Plan 2010 – 2015:
Work has begun on a proposed future outcome and structure
for Elite Danish Cricket. The project is still very much
within its evolution stages, but initial strategies and
ideas are meeting with both enthusiasm and interest.
6.
Cricket:
Finally, have managed to get around to quite a bit of
cricket over the last couple of weekends, and I am very
confident that with the talent we have here, that the
proposed National Development Plan can yield some very
significant results over the next few years. The job of
bringing Denmark back to the top of International cricket is
not going to be a quick fix however, and it will require an
immense amount of hard work from all the people involved in
the game, at all levels. However, from what I have seen, we
certainly have the talent, and I know from my discussions
around the Country, there is a great ambition to once again
make Danish Cricket “Great”. I personally, am relishing the
challenges ahead.
